How to Clean Jewelry
Lots of people make the mistake of cleaning their jewelry the wrong way. This can damage your jewelry instead of cleaning it. When you decide it’s time to clean your jewelry, the best thing to do is just simply soak it in warm soapy water. In addition to letting it soak, you can also brush it lightly with soft-bristle brush to scrub under and around the diamonds. To avoid having to do this all the time, you should make sure you wipe off sweat, skin oils, makeup, and other things that may have gotten on your jewelry with a soft cloth.
To remove dirt and fingerprints from your jewelry, make a soapy water solution by adding mild soap to a cup of water. Soak the piece of jewelry for a few minutes, and then make sure you rinse it thoroughly with water that doesn’t have any soap in it. Always remember to dry your piece of jewelry when you are done.
If your sterling silver has become tarnished, you can polish it with a 100% cotton cloth, and a nonabrasive metal cleaner. Make sure you rinse your jewelry afterwards to get rid of any remnants of cleaner that may be stuck in between the gems or clasps of your jewelry.
Always remember to never use toothpaste or ammonia. These can eat away certain metals such as silver and gold because they cannot handle the strong toxin. These chemicals can also damage the prongs holding your gems in place, which will lead to you losing your gems.
