- The first thing you should do is narrow in on why you want a tattoo in the first place. Hopefully you aren’t doing it just to be trendy, because that is certainly something you will regret in the future. But really there are a number of reasons why you might want to get a tattoo. It might reflect a particular event in or your life or maybe you just think it will add a little style to your body. Either way, make sure you know why and it will simplify the process.
- Start doing some research. Flip through tattoo books and start looking them up online. You don’t have to actually choose one of these designs if you’re looking to be more original, but it will at least get the wheels turning. You can narrow down the style you want and go from there.
- Check out your friend’s tattoos. Ask them why they choose that particular design or symbol and it may just help you come choose the right tattoo.
- Once you’ve done plenty of research, try to sketch the tattoo you want. You will most likely value the tattoo more if you’ve created it yourself. You tattoo will be completely original. You can also bring your design to the tattoo parlor and ask for suggestions or opinions if you’re still uncertain.
- Before getting the tattoo permanently inked on your body, get a stencil version first. You can usually have this done at the tattoo parlor. Have it placed on a few different spots of your body so that you can choose the best spot without any regret.
