Beauty On A Budget
I always find it amazing the time I spend at the HBA section. The selection is so great and the prices so varied. I am sure you will agree that we invest alot of time and money looking for the miracle products that will make us look and feel like the models who try and sell them to us.
Still to this very day I can hear my grandmothers advice each time I use an expensive skin tightener, conditioner, shampoo, or nail hardener. She was so frugal that she used every tea bag twice. Here are some of her words of wisdom.
- Rain Water- Collect it, save it, and use it to rinse your hair. It will leave it soft and manageable.
- Lemon Juice- Lightens freckles, added to rinse water will work as a clarifying agent and keep blonde tresses brilliant, pour in small bowl to soak fingernails in to whiten.
- Egg White- Apply to face, let dry and leave on for 15 minutes then rinse with cool washcloth.Tightens pores and leaves face feeling soft and clean.
- Shampoo- Do not wash your hair every day, it strips it of natural oils. Dilute with water, there is plenty of sudsing agents and it doesn’t effect the performance and cuts down on cost.
- Tea- Boil a couple of large teabags in a quart of water, let steep. Use to rinse through brunette hair to keep it looking rich and shiny. Also save the tea bags to use for sunburn as it takes the sting out. Tea bags are great on the eyes too when used to soothe eye strain as you would use cucumbers
- Kleenex- Use a peice with clear nail polish to mend a broken or torn nail.
- Folmadhyde- get from druggist and add one drop to your nail polish to make nails hard.
- Knox Gelatin- great in orange juice to help to strengthen nails and hair.
- Mayo- still works today as a great deep conditioner. Apply liberally to hair, wrap in saran wrap for 15 to 20 min and rinse.
- Other Tips:
- Brush your hair 100 strokes. Why? To distribute natural oils to the ends of the hair.Use a brush with natural bristles if you can.
- Never brush your hair when wet, it does alot of damage. If you must, then start at the bottom of your hair and work your way up to the crown.
- The same conditioner you use on your hair is great for your skin also.
- Splash vanilla extract behind your ears for an emergency substitute for cologne.
- If feeling under the weather, poach soft eggs in milk and pour over toast, the protien will give you a lift and well the warm milk will help relax you.
All these methods save us money and most of these products we have around the house anyway.
I am sure you have great tips to share from your elders also. Please pass them on. Saving time, money and alot of coupon clipping will benefit us all
