Workshop For Teen Girls
Are you looking for the perfect club or agency to address your teenage concerns that includes acne problems, proper grooming, manners and etiquette? Then brace yourself! For who knows, your place might be the next stop of the My Beauty Teen Tour.
Founded by Gabrielle Thomas in 2004, My Beauty offers services and workshops about common teenage concerns. With these concerns in mind, the organizers have some activities on how to empower teenagers. They hold workshops on proper skin care as well as seminar on nutrition, fitness and exercise, proper bearing and manners. They also tackle more important issues like managing your finances and setting goals.
Thomas, a UCLA graduate, is an aesthetician and make-up artist. She recognized these needs of adolescents and that is why she founded this organization. She believes that having a good physical appearance is one factor towards having a good feeling about one’s self. In addition, My Beauty not just deals with physical beauty but more so on self-esteem. According to her, having a low-esteem can lead to negative feelings about one’s self and that can affect a teenager’s views and decision. On the other hand, if that teen is already feeling good about himself (or herself), then it is most probably that he (or she) would have a more positive look on how things are going.
My Beauty goes through 10 cities and does that in 100 days during the summer. One of the stops of this tour through California is La Puente. Teenage boys and girl from La Puente Boys and Girls Club enjoyed pampering and uplifting seminars for free! My Beauty has a mobile studio which is beautifully decorated to the delight of the teenagers. Dr. Sheri G. Feldman, a dermatologist, lectured on how to be acne-free. She also demonstrated how to properly care for the face and skin.
A course on self-defense is also included in the tour. Just outside the mobile studio is Marcella King, a self-defense instructor. Through her lectures and demonstrations, teenagers learned how to pull away from abusers and how to recognize physical and verbal abuse.
The tour is sponsored by acne medication, Retin-A Micro Pump. So aside from the lectures and helpful tips, teenagers also have some goodies to take home for them to use. As what Dr. Feldman shared, a good way to care for your skin is to use mild toners and cleansers. Use products that are specially made for teenagers like you.
