You better believe those sexy comic book heroes from the 70s weren’t vitamin deficient! Do we need vitamins for Girl Power?Vitamins are substances that your body needs to grow and develop normally. I remember taking my purple Flintstone Vitamins when I was growing up. Those chewable vitamins were so good. I read in a magazine that Christina Aguilera requested Flintstone Vitamins be delivered to her dressing room. Are you taking your vitamins every day? Chances are you’re probably not… Do you know why we have to take vitamins?
There are 13 vitamins your body needs. They are vitamins A, C, D, E, K and the B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, vitamin B-6, vitamin B-12 and folate). You can usually get all your vitamins from the foods you eat. Your body can also make vitamins D and K. Some divas may need extra iron, omegas & calcium. The Vegan Vixens may need to take a vitamin B12 supplement. The best way to get enough vitamins is to eat a balanced diet with a variety of foods. In some cases, you may need to take a daily multivitamin for optimal health. However, high doses of some vitamins can make you sick. There are many articles disputing vitamins. Hands down, unequivocally, no one is disputing the health benefits of fruits and vegetables, which are super-rich in antioxidants, as well as other nutrients you just can’t find in a pill form. Sometimes I see high ORAC scores thrown around in vitamins, chocolate & other edible goods, but buyer beware, you may not be getting what you paid for. If there is no clinical data supporting how those ORACs perform on a cellular level you could very well be hoodwinked.
Please repeat after me: A vitamin a day does not replace the nutrients that are naturally found in fruits or vegetables any day. It’s like a fake Hermes Birken Handbag–and let’s face it, ladies, nothing beats the authenticity of the original.
