The Eye Etiquette – Contact Lenses
Colored contact lenses are very common now days. From teenagers to mature human beings, all have used contact lenses in one form or the other.
Wearing contacts is not as easy as wearing glasses. If you wear contact lenses then you must be aware of the measures which should be taken to avoid your eyes from permanent damage. Here we look at some of the measures which should be taken to avoid any complications while using colored contact lenses and show concern for the health of your eyes.
Contact lenses are made to support you throughout the day. Experts believe that the approximate time period for wearing these lenses is from 12 to 14 hours a day. Once every week the eyes should be given a complete day off so as to provide the proper nourishment that is required.
Wearing either colored contact lenses or the Plano for more than the desired time period can be very harmful for your eyes. They may become starved of oxygen and in the long run the cornea may end up losing its transparency.
Starving of oxygen can prompt the tiny blood vessels in the eyes to shoot off and new ones to develop. The worst thing for the patient in such cases is that there are no symptoms to the problem. Users of colored contact lenses are advised to have regular checkups so as to avoid any serious problems in the future.
Long ago the hard contact lenses were made of a material that did not allow oxygen to get through to the other end. A solution to this problem was to manually build tiny holes in the hard contact lens so that the cornea did not starve of oxygen.
Afterwards the rigid gas permeable contact lenses came into being. They allowed an ample supply of oxygen to get through to the other end. Today these rigid gas permeable contacts are known as hard lenses which are the only cure for the astigmatism patients.
On the other hand, soft contact lenses are made from a gel-like plastic. These are all gas permeable and come with many different degrees of water content. This water level allows different quantities of oxygen to reach to the cornea. Soft lenses are preferred over hard lenses because they are comfortable to use, but in some cases it is a must for the user to shift over to hard contact lenses.
To keep your eyes healthy there are a lot of methods which one can use. Rest and proper sleep is one option but we would rather look at things that are related to contact lenses. Suppose that whenever we use a computer, we blink our eyes less, contact lenses dries up faster.
A similar case can rise when working in central heated or dry air-conditioned offices. To avoid your eyes from drying up so quickly, you can use any solution which your optician has prescribed.
These precaution should be taken and kept in mind whenever dealing with any sort of contact lenses. Hard, soft or colored contact lenses do not make a difference. If you mishandle your contact lenses then you might even end up blind. Permanent scarring is very common with the misuse of lenses.
