Simply Anti Aging – Botox Anyone?
Botox Anyone?
For the past few years if you have wanted to eliminate the signs of aging like wrinkles, sagging skin and other lines, it is more than likely you would consider botox. When botox is injected into the muscles of the forehead, it blocks nerve impulses which results in the weakening of the muscles that cause frowning. Given sufficient treatments, frown lines that the person has lived with for many years will gradually fade.
Despite how often this treatment is used, few people understand the method it uses. To help us with this, we need to step back a few decades to when this substance was first researched and used. Botulinum toxin was first researched back in the 1960s. Originally, the purpose was to treat neurological disorders. Then a few decades later in 1989, the FDA approved its use to treat vision disorders, patients suffering with uncontrollable blinking and crossed eyes. In 2000 it was approved to treat cervical dystonia, and further tests showed it to be effective at reducing frown lines around the eye areas.
Then the cosmetic industry ushered in the use of injections to help eliminate those years of wear and tear, cry and frown expressions. A person who has undergone several treatments still has enough movement to provide some expression, but they are limited. By this time wrinkles and creases have all but disappeared, leaving the person looking younger than their true years. Unfortunately, some say that a facial surface that is completely smooth looks like a dummy or mannequin.
The side effects of regular botox treatment may take some time to appear as it is only a recent addition to the cosmetic surgeon’s armory. For now its use does not seem to be diminishing.
