What Do We Expect the Educational Systems Be?
Some educational systems emphasize the development of students’ capacity for reasoning and logical thinking, but students would benefit more from an education that also taught them to explore their own emotions.
The speaker asserts that educational systems should place less emphasis on reason and logical thinking and more emphasis on the exploration of emotions. I agree with the speaker insofar as undue emphasis on reason and logical thinking may mislead the direction of education. Nowadays, education has become the main provider of individual Omega Replica Watches opportunity in our society. Just as property and money once were the keys to success, education has now become the element that most ensures success in life. But any education is not only preparation for a career; it is also (or should be) preparation for life. The process of teaching and studying in school is not only a process of importing knowledge to students, but also a process of emotion exchange between teachers and students.
Recently we learned a phrase “emotion competence”. As to me, it refers to certain capabilities. When we meet some unexpected cases, such as, fail in an examination or disappointment in a love affair, how we face them and control our emotion. We often hear of some reports about some one to commit suicide. I’m sorry to say that the person who lacks emotion competence might attempt to end his/her life in this way. Actually that people meet serious problems is common situation in their life. Therefore we should admit that it is very important for us youth to acquire emotion competence because life is full of competition whenever on campus or in society. In the meanwhile there are various temptations which we decide to pursuit or abandon. If we possess mature emotion competence, we can cope with them sensibly. In addition, People are not like the computer, they need more emotional elements. If the test between human mind and machine were reasoning ability, the computer would be our superior. But logic alone does not make a first-class mind. In our complicated world, straightforward reasoning doesn’t always work.
However, emotions are subjective things after all. On the other hand, reason is objective and therefore facilitates communication, consensus, and peaceful compromise. The origin of action — its efficient, not its final cause — is choice, and that of choice is desire and reasoning with a view to an end. This is why choice cannot exist either without Omega Speedmaster Replica reason and intellect or without a moral state, for good action and its opposite cannot exist without a combination of intellect and character. One who applies a series of logical reasoning methods such as induction and deduction in his complex reasoning process may make him conspicuously outstanding among his peers.
In sum, emotions can serve as important catalysts in some aspects of people’s life. Otherwise, however, students, and ultimately society, are better-off by learning to temper their emotions while nurturing judgment, tolerance, fairness, and understanding — all of which are products of reasoning and logic thinking.
